21 Reasons Why McCain’s VP Pick is HILARIOUS! (a work in progress)
Posted on August 29th, 2008 by DJK -

Previously, I’d seen John McCain’s VP pick as a no-win situation. He couldn’t pick Joe Lieberman because he’s Jewish and pro-choice (angering evangelicals), couldn’t pick Mitt Romney because he’s Mormon (angering evangelicals), and couldn’t pick Mike Huckabee since he’s a religious fundamentalist (angering independents). Seemed like Tim Pawlenty would be a safe, boring choice that wouldn’t excite anyone, especially since no one knows who he is.

But McCain’s choice of Alaska’s Sarah Palin shows that, by attempting to think outside the box, McCain has found a previously undiscovered way to lose a no-win situation. Seriously, choosing Palin is utterly ridiculous. Here are just a few reasons that I thought of without really trying:

1. Completely undercuts one of McCain’s main arguments against Barack Obama — that Obama lacks the experience to be president. If Obama isn’t experienced enough, what the hell is Palin? Should be hilarious to watch McCain and the republicans try to answer that one.

2. Introduces an issue that has not gotten nearly as much attention as it should — McCain’s age and health. It’s clear that McCain’s brain is already deteriorating, and with his advanced age, Palin is less than a heartbeat away from being president — it’s more like a half beat. Does anyone, including republicans, feel secure with the prospect of president Palin?

3. Alaska is already a republican state. No votes to pick up there.

4. McCain’s pick shows that he has essentially bought his own propaganda, believing that there are scads of Hillary Clinton supporters who won’t back Obama and need a reason to vote for McCain. While McCain and the corporate media spent all week talking about this phantom demographic, I think there are only a tiny number of such women who were given a disproportionately loud voice by the McCain campaign and the media trying to stir up trouble. If there are such women, my guess is that they were mostly disgusted republicans who were willing to cross party lines to see a woman become president. If there were any more, Hillary’s strong statements at the DNC will have left no doubt what supporting Hillary really means — voting with the democrats.

5. This is sure to infuriate the very powerful sexist wing of the republican party. I can’t imagine Rush Limbaugh supporting a woman president of any party.

6. Palin is in the middle of an investigation over whether she used her influence to get her former brother-in-law, State Trooper Mike Wooten, fired. When Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan refused to fire Wooten, Monegan was suddenly fired. Palin and her administration forcefully claimed they had nothing to do with it, but they had to reverse that stance when a tape surfaced of a call with one of her staff saying that Palin wanted Wooten fired. Firing dedicated public servants (a state trooper, no less), for political/personal reasons? DOJ attorney scandal, anyone?

7. Soon to be a YouTube sensation, Palin said in a CNBC interview that she doesn’t want to entertain the notion of being vice president until “someone answers for me what is it exactly the VP does everyday?” Why can’t she find out for herself? Don’t they have books and the internet in Alaska? If someone said I might be chosen as VP, I would find out myself what the VP does, not wait for someone to explain it to me. Maybe, like McCain and Bush, Palin is still learning how to use “a Google”.

8. Palin was the chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, which “oversees oil and gas drilling, development and production, reservoir depletion and metering operations on all lands subject to the state's police powers”. Just the change America needs — another VP looking to enrich the oil industry. Totally undercuts McCain’s claim that he bucks the repubs by being more green and is not in the pocket of Big Oil.

9. Zero foreign policy experience. McCain attacked Obama for not visiting Iraq enough while Palin has never gone. The only possible concern in a Biden/Palin debate is that Biden crushes her so badly that she starts crying and people feel sorry for her.

10. Does McCain have any relationship at all with Palin? What in their “history” convinced him that she should be president? Does even McCain know?

11. Obama and Biden seem like a team — two smart men with different specialties who can advise each other and play off each other’s strengths, much like Bill Clinton and Al Gore. What does Palin bring to the table? What advice will McCain seek from her?

12. Palin thinks creationism should be taught in schools. Enough said.

13. Palin is anti-choice. While this might make the 10% of Americans who want all abortions outlawed happy, it will alienate the vast majority of Americans. Not everyone knows that McCain wants Roe vs. Wade overturned and will do so if he can get more Supreme Court justices, and when they find that out, they run from McCain. Now they have one more person to run from.

14. Palin doesn’t think humans have caused climate change. Another knock on McCain’s attempts at greenwashing.

15. If Palin became president, do you really think the Cheneys and Rumsfelds of the world would let her do anything? They'd send her to a quiet corner while the big boys took care of things. She’d just be another oil/corporate stooge, just like Bush.

16. Palin becoming president would do for women what Alberto Gonzales has done for Latinos and what Condoleeza Rice has done for black women — set them back a decade or more.

17. This is an example of McCain’s superior judgment?

18. Just try imagining a McCain/Palin in 2008 poster. Yeah, neither can I. And when I do, I get a hearty chuckle.

19. If McCain truly thinks that America is facing enormous challenges and dire threats from terrorists, Iran, Russia, China, and a crippled economy, why would he pick Palin to possibly be the leader of the free world?

20. The Alaska republican party is in tatters as it attempts to handle multiple corruption scandals.

21. President Palin, leader of the free world. Just say it aloud. Everyone feel safer?

I’m sure this list will continue to grow and grow. Palin and the McCain campaign just ran into a buzzsaw of their own creation. I wouldn’t be surprised if Palin withdraws her name before the election.

The show “Ally McBeal” was on the air in the late nineties and even though it had a loyal following, it eventually disappeared.
When the dancing baby came along, it had no apparent relation to the story, nothing distinctive, but it was the dancing baby and it was cute.
Everyone fell in love with it.
The baby had some moves; I am sure it could do other things that babies do, but it did not matter. It was the dancing baby and it was cute.
Soon the dancing baby became more popular than the stars, more important than the story, bigger than the show.
It was on video, in magazines and on the internet.
Some nay-sayers could have said the baby was only one-dimensional in spite of appearances, but they were fortunate to keep it to themselves. It was the dancing baby and it was cute.
Finally, one day, the dancing baby was gone. It probably grew up and out of our collective mind, and probably not a baby anymore. But somehow, some event brought it back to my mind.
Did I mention how cute she was?

Anonymous summed it up. But you don't have to convince me. Why don't Republicans see that Palin is nothing more than a McCain campaign marketing technique? Maybe they do, but they are party first, country second.

I made a comment a few days ago, and said that I felt Governor Palin should have said no to Senator McCain's request for her to be his VP running mate. Based upon the national attention that goes with such an office and considering all the issues that Governor Palin appears to be involved in, it's only natural that most folks, like myself, might think she would best serve her home State of Alaska by at least, remaining its Governor. With the most recent issue concerning her involvement with the affairs of her ex-brother-in-law's firing (the Alaskan State Trooper) and the attempt she has made to avoid testimony to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, it once again appears that Senator McCain has made yet another poor decision and choice. I ask anyone who reads this comment to go to the other comments I've posted and read them also. Just as sure as I'm writing this, I believe it will come to pass that as long as Senator McCain continues along this path, making poor choices as he is doing, he will not succeed in winning the White House in November. His ability to make sound decisions is greatly diminished by the people he surrounds himself with. It appears that Governor Palin has something to hide. The last thing the American public needs in the White House for the next 4 yrs.+ is another branch of Government hiding facts from the public. If Governor Palin has nothing to hide, she would better serve Senator McCain by stepping up to the plate and confronting the issue, but then again, Senator McCain's ability to confront the economic issue in this country is to form a "commission" to investigate and then get back to him, (sometime next year?). I'm telling you folks, Senator McCain still doesn't get it!! It's time for the American citizen to realize that we're simply tired of waiting until next month, next year, next fall.. what? we'll just sit around and wait? wait for what?, for John McCain to be elected? What we want is change.. Hmmmm... I'm thinking.. who said that first? Oh yeah.. it was Barack Obama.

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.... .

If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."

However, grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you're a quintessential American story.

If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic "Muslim" (who, by the way, is a Christian).

However, name your kids Willow , Trig and Track, you're a "maverick".

Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

However, attend 5 different small colleges before graduating with an undergraduate degree in Journalism and you're well educated and grounded.

If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law Professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs Committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

However, if your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive and next in line behind a man in his eighth decade of life.

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

However, if you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and then left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a
    true Christian.

If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

However, if, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only (and teaching only abstinence) with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant while under your direct supervision, you are very responsible.

If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America 's.

However, if your husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA , your family is extremely admirable.

Oh okay, I get it now

    Do the research people.
Mrs. Palin had to rush to the Justice of the Peace for her own shotgun wedding. Less then 8 months later, her son Track was born.
Hummmm...so much for Christian conservative, and pushing abstainance.
These hippocritical Republicans have had their time, our country is in ruin, so for goodness sake, elect the guy who graduated at the top of his class from Harvard, not the old dude who came in 5th from the bottom of the Navy Academy that his daddy got him into.
And Mrs. Palin, she needs to raise her children, so the next one won't have a baby out of wedlock and end up on WIC, at the taxpayers expense.

anything put on obama can be put on mccain/palin or both and being a mayor of 7,000 people doesnt cut it in my book. There are around 200,000 ppl in the city so does that make our mayor that much more qualified then she is? How many people are ready to put her as the pres. incase something happens, i know im not. basically the only reason why she is where she is, is because she is a women since hillary isnt in mccain figured hell steal some votes.

What amazes me is that anyone with any intelligence would even consider voting for McCain and Palin. All one has to do is listen to them, let alone their records in public office. Now it is Mud Slinging, Swiftboating and out and out right lies. All we as Americans have to do is look around us to see what is going on, WAR for oil, jobs going out of America, budget out of whack, torture, Bush cronies in legal trouble, and so much more, to include totally out of touch with what is going on in America.
Yet, some easily manipulated Americans can't see the forest of evil for the brainwashing trees. Just boggles the mind. BUSH STOLE THE ELECTION, WITH THE HELP OF HIS BROTHER AND OTHERS. Don't you care? Don't you care about what your children will have to face?

Pete, I will agree with you that the McCain/Palin ticket is cause for alarm. 4 yrs. ago I was saying the same thing about Bush. The problem was the Dems. couldn't find a legitimate candidate to run against Bush. John Kerry, give me a break. I'm afraid that it will be the same this year with Obama. I may not agree with a lot of things that McCain says but every time Obama opens his mouth he says some very politically outlandish things. Things like " I should make sure my childeren can speak spanish" or " the U.S. has a good business / trade relationship with China". The Clinton news network, aka. CNN, likes to tell me that Obama is in touch with what America wants and needs. I would be a little more inclined to beleive them if I were a democrat, but I'm neither a dem. or a repub. I choose to listen to the candidates then make a choice based on what I hear. what I'm hearing is McCain may not be my first choice for president, but Obama shouldn't even be in the running.

I don't want to repeat all the obvious reasons why this McCain/Palin ticket is a joke. And I don't really want to think about the very real possibility of them being in office. But who in their right mind would ever consider installing Sarah Palin as leader of the free world, which we all know would be a distinct possibility. Nick1317 and others with your mindset, I truly feel sorry for your lack of judgment and it scares the hell out of me that there are so many of you. No matter how much the Republican machine tries to talk about change, you're looking at another Bush administration and you know it. Is that what you want? Probably.

People seem to not want to see or acknowledge what has happened to our country for the las eight years....We are in a recession, real state is affecting us all, and ignorance is our daily bread.......let me tell you something guys, ignorance isn't bliss in this case. We are all affected by the bad decisions of the few, plus the media control(Fox news specially). Should we consent to be governed in a state of ignorance......I want change for the better. Johnny B. Goode!

Deep down in Arizona close to Mexico
Way back up in the cactuses where it never snows
There stood an ancient mansion made of gold and wood
Where lived a a corrupt politician named Johnny B Goode
Who’d never learned the difference between Sunni or Shia so well
But he could pretend to chase Osama to the gates of Hell

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

He used to carry his bribe money in a gunnysack
Go sit beneath a tree and count his Keating kickbacks
Old lobbyist on K street would see him sittin’ in the shade
Laughing at the doubletalk and flip flops he made
The people passed him by they would stop and say
Oh my but that little old mummy really hates the gays

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

Once upon time the state of Arizona couldn’t host a superbowl
Because it was legislated by a group of white supremacist trolls
The bigots were led by an angry fascist who was a goose-stepping man
A millionaire, senator who belonged to the Klu Klux Klan
Johnny B Goode was a maverick when it came to recognizing MLK
So the old cracker donned his klan robe and voted against a holiday

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

His mother told him someday you will be an old man
And you will be the leader of a murderous criminal clan
Many people will be blown to bits from miles around
To see you launch the nukes and take us all down
Maybe some day you will make mushroom clouds so bright
Sayin’ “Johnny McCain pushed the button tonight”

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

Sarah Palin reminds me of a cheerleader in many respects. And the men in the media, and online, are acting like they would like to "hit" on the pretty cheerleader. Honestly, they are so transparent. Sexism? MMMM...McCain has turned this very serious election into a fiasco. He thinks people are so easily led astray that Sarah will distract people from him. To a degree, he is right. So, is McCain really concerned about this country, or is he just interested in wanting to be the big bad President? I think it's obvious. He is an ill tempered, foul minded, 72 year old man who has PTSD from being a POW, and THAT is what concerns me. I want a full discloser of ALL of his medical records, including his mental health records. His mental health concerns me more than his physical health. Yes, he was a POW, who received privileged medical because he gave up military info, in other words, he violated the military code. He survived a huge fire on his ship where many died, and there is intense speculation that he, John McCain, started the fire by goofing off and showing off on his aircraft. No way, NO MCain........

Has anyone noticed that Palin is GORGEOUS? (Makes Hillary look like the bull dyke she is.) BUT...Palin, pretty as she is, is just another socialist, pro-government, anti-human warmonger. Just like McPain, O-bomb-a and the rest. Wake up America! Your ENEMY is your government!!!!!!!
    • ^
    • v
Get this! The Evangelicals are "energized" about the McCain/Palin ticket! McCain is a non church goer who fellow POW's believe to be an atheist! He dumped his wife for the stick figure and cheated with her while married. Palin herself is the subject of more bad character scandals than anyone in recent memory. Republican's continue to fall for the same old B.S. time and again. These are God's answer for our problems?? Throw McCain and Palin in a bag with Limbaugh, Hannity and O'Reilly and shake it up and see what comes out. Better hold your noses!

    Number 22:

With Palin, a half a heartbeat away from being president, how will she be received by islamic countries, in the event of her presidency? Islam IS our biggest threat, the second most prevalent, AND the fastest growing religion and culture on the planet.

    Islamic views include:

    • Women with 5 children or more must stay home and take care of their children. Otherwise, they are infidels.

    • That women (Palin's pregnant daughter) who have premarital sex must be killed by family members for shaming the family (Honor killings are the second leading cause of death for women in the Islamic world)

    • Islam is a men's world and women DO NOT have equal rights or respect, but varying degrees of rights with regard to marriage, divorce, civil rights, legal status, dress code and education. How will Sarah be perceived by these people? How will she command respect? With a HUGE gun?

    • Should not the uproar in the Islamic world over Sarah Palin be brought to the attention to the voters in the United States?

    Christian views include:

Regarding Palin's Husband, that stay at home dads, are "worse than infidels"
...well McCain's Pastor thinks this anyway:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sn6vfWPoAA

On the other hand, the Islamic world will love Sarah Palin for her views on homosexuality. They will embrace her church's' electric shock and prayer therapy for "curing" it. I guess that IS a step forward in our evolutionary path, compared to the Islamic world's continued torture, imprisonment and execution of gays.
    • ^
    • v
This is the best line: "Palin becoming president would do for women what Alberto Gonzales has done for Latinos and what Condoleeza Rice has done for black women — set them back a decade or more." I would add "..and what Dan Quayle did for our cherished Pampered-White-Rich-Kids Affirmative Action Policies. But wait, that didn't hurt Bush at all, did it?

And "Christian for Obama," please note that creationism is not a science. Teaching creationism in a science class would be like teaching magic in a physics class. In the realm of science the word "theory" does not mean "wild-ass guess." Many prevailing "theories" such as of gravity, relativity, and molecular structure are taught in science; must we waste precious time teaching all the discredited theories as well? The Lamarkian theory of evolution typically is taught when Darwinian evolution is taught BUT AS AN EXAMPLE of a discredited theory. Surely you would have a huge problem if creationism were taught as an example of a discredited theory, so be careful what you wish for.

If McCain becomes president, and he will, because Bush needs someone like him to continue what ever mess he is got us in to or at least cover his tracks, we are going to have a World War 3. Remember my words.

Also Israeli lobbyist (Zionists) might be to blame for world trade center. What a great reason to push America to defend it self against presumable enemy (Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Palestine) and to help Israel win their long fought war with Arabs.

ben laden my foot.... great story though..

and American people are not stupid.. maybe ignorant a little they are like working bees. Working all day... and at the end of the day all they want is a little time with their family... a beer maybe... and don't see that Bush and his administration are ruining their own country.. and McCain is just another apple from the same tree.

Maybe this mortgage crisis and the budget deficit which will soon affect every single person in america. When Clinton was president this country had proficit in budget. What did you think? People just suddenly stopped paying for their houses?

Nope... Bush did it. If I was any in the same room with Bush, I would just kick his ass for making his dad and brother fake the second elections, which is what they are going to do to help McCain.

And the media ? lol I am not going to go there.

Creationism should be taught in all schools. it is one of many theories of how the world and universe came about. and all theories should be taught as just that, theories. there is sufficient evidence to support many different types of creation theories. please do not discredit someone simply because they believe in creationism. the simple explanation is that life cannot come from non living things. most people probably believe evolution because they studied enough to pass the test in high school and took it as fact instead of questioning the system.

P.S. for the Christians out there...it is possible to like and vote for a Democrat...you don't always have to be Republican

McCain's first decision as POTUS-to-be has been shown to be so foolish, cynical and embarassing that he cannot and should not get more than 20% of the vote, corresponding to the lowest two deciles of the SAT (or IQ) bell curve. Palin is barely qualified to run a PTA meeting. Her choice as a running mate shows that McCain will appoint the same incompetent cronies who have ruined virtually every agency in the Government: Brownie at FEMA; Gonzalez at DOJ; Rubes at the FDA who have allowed pet food to be poisoned; tools at Interior who have slept with lobbyists for Arab oil ministers in exchange for repayment in kind drilling leases (wonder why Palin has 5 kids); Williams at the OCC who allowed the banks and Countrywide to ruin our mortgage and credit markets; Graham at the CFTC who authorized Enron to rape shareholders and the California energy market; puddin' heads at Walter Reed who callously ignored and mistreated returning veterans; fools at the CPSC who permitted poisonous toys to enter from China; and, lest we forget, disloyal lobbyists (some now working for McCain) who attempted to sell our ports to Islamic fascists from Arab countries that hate us. If these same things happened in any company, the CEO would be fired immediately. McCain wants to continue with the same crooked, deceitful and incompetent fools. WAKE UP YOU PARTISAN PUBES. THE GOP HAS TO GO!!

Mike, there are SO many valid arguments against Obama that I really just didn't know where to start. I don't think Obama is an anti-Christ, just another liberal idiot with skewed views the will inevitably run America into the ground. Make the minimum age for a US President 55 and make military experience a requirement. That would fix a lot of our problems. Say want you want Mike, but practice saying "President McCain." ;)

nick1317, you are the ignorant and uneducated one here. did you even read anything on the post? No one said anything about hating McCain because he owns property and is successfil. This article is mainly about PALIN. Learn to read. And a muslim terrorist? I suppose you're one of those psychos who also think Obama is the anti-Christ.
    • ^

The obviously ignorant and uneducated should learn to keep their opinions to themselves. I'm having a problem with understanding the argument that people shouldn't vote for McCain because he owns property and is successful...maybe you would be happiest with a crackhead in office!! Or maybe a muslim terrorist?! Oh wait, I forgot, that's who the perpetrators of this website expect us all to vote for!! I have a new Obama campaign slogan: "CHANGE--CAUSE THAT'S ALL YOU'LL HAVE LEFT WHEN I'M DONE!!" Ahh well, I'll get off my soapbox and get started planning a party for McCain's inauguration...

Your lack of credible reasons as to why you're voting for the McCain ticket leads me to believe you're an uninformed voter which is just plain ignorant

** 23 - "NOT have your sixteen year old daughter with a boyfriend ON BIRTH CONTROL?"

    sorry
    • ^
    • v
I'll add a few to the list:

    22. Palin has a bachelor's degree in journalism-- this is the highest level of education she has received. This does nothing to supplement Mccain's absolute lack of academic prowess (can you say military academy?) Juxtapose that with two doctorates in jurisprudence between Biden and Obama (obama been president of harvard law review, which is probably the most prestigious academic honor or any law student in the country-- and that without the benefit of growing up rich with all the best tutors and prep schools).

    23. Republican christians always refer to things like teen pregnancy to be a parental failing. If Palin can't look after her daughter, how is she going to look after the needs and concerns of 290 million people. How can you be educated, well paid, AND an active informed parent and NOT have your sixteen year old daughter with a boyfriend?? You're either negligent, stubbornly ignorant, or just plain dumb!

    23. Find a picture of the city hall of the town she was mayor in. Hilarious. Trust me.

    24. Believes Alaska is the ultimate refuge for all of the righteous christians to hide in when the world ends in the near future-- these are her church's beliefs!

    25. What does she know about the national health care debate? National defense, does she know the ins and outs of international diplomacy? National economy? Savings and Loan? National tax structure? Educational inequity across class and racial lines on a national level? The president is the guardian of the constitution, does she understand law on a deep and nuanced level? Does the beauty queen/journalism major know what makes a good supreme court justice? Does she, CAN she understand politics and governance on a national level without ever having set foot in Washington? National budget? Law enforcement? Welfare? Disaster relief?

    26. Does McCAin realize that choosing her has sure as hell recruited the Clintons to a full-time campaign for Obama role (GOP's worst nightmare). Hilary can no longer hold out until 2012 to become the first woman president. That is, unless she believes that McCAin will survive his first term as the oldest president ever elected. This in light of nearly 1/5 of our presidents having been incapacitated, resigned, or killed, putting the VP in power. I'm sure he'll be the lucky one . . . i'm sure the Clintons will just sit back and bank on that as well. Sure . . .

I guess if you don't buy into victimhood and raging feminism you aren't part of the club. This list is about as well thought out as OHB's plans to turn back the waters and heal the planet. Get over yourself. You are a lib and not a very bright one at that. Of course you hate the Palin pick, she's is the biggest threat to liberalism since Ronald Reagan. She's an intelligent, articulate, and graceful babe, something that is sorely lacking on the Dems side. For all you Dims out there that are praying to whatever it is you pray to that this thing is going to backfire on McCain, take a deep breath and watch this chick sizzle on the national stage. Lets compare Sarah Palin to the present President. Sarah is from the Largest state, George is from the second largest state. Sarah has been a Governor one year, George was a Governor for five years,( One term and one year). Is Sarah qualified, if you like what George did with his experience, she is. George has taken on Washington, if he does not like a law he ignores it, Sarah had to fire the state trooper supervisor not for doing a bad job but as Mr Bailey from the Governors office stated on Niteline, the governor likes the supervisor but the Palin family cant believe he would keep her x brother-in-law on the force. Sounds like another George!!

OK pot what are you trying to do with Sarah, " her husband won the snowmobile championship, (this is what I look for in a VP if we have a crisis her husband can take her to the Whitehouse FAST ) Sarah stopped the bridge to NO WHERE , CBS brought out on Tuesday night that Sarah first supported the bridge but then changed her mind, is this what the Republicans keep saying about Obama. It sounds to me like Mc Cain is trying to clone Obama as his VP. John does not change his mind he just does not know what he is saying. John do you remember the reporter that ask you why you supported Insurance Companies paying for Viagara for men but you did not support insurance Companies paying for birth control for women. John do you remember telling the reporter that you would get back with her on that because you could not remember how you voted John that tells us that another old statement is true, when you get old the first thing you lose is the sex and the second is your memory. Now do you remember why you voted for insurance companies to pay for Viagara?

Has anyone given any attention to the fact Gov. Palin was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party. I didn't until I read, on wikipedia, citing CBS news and ABC news as its source, a quote from the founder of the AIP that I will post below:

During the 1970s, Vogler founded Alaskans for Independence to actively pursue secession for Alaska from the United States. In 1984,[1] he founded the AIP to explore whether the 1958 vote by Alaskans authorizing statehood was legal.

The Alaskan Independence Party quotes Vogler [the AIP founder] as stating

"I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."

Doesn't this make a difference? Doesn't that seem unpatriotic? I hate the discussion of patriotism in discourse, but under our current rules, isn't this just like a Jeremiah Wright comment, except it's a political affiliation? Maybe I'm off base here.

"W" has made such a mess of our country and we have to get back to where we were 8 years where we had loyal alies......Why is there still so many ignorant people out there that are so blind or twisted they don't get it. Even McCain's ads make no sense to me at all......I could write for a week, but refrain from that...LOL WHO IN THERE RIGHT MIND WOULD CONSIDER REVERSING ROE VS WADE? In the last 8 years are rights as American Citizens have been greatly affected by a president unlike no others. When has it ever happened in history that our freedom of speech was taken from us....I grew up in the sixties, not a great time but we were allowed to speak. Lets start with Point one of your Post DJK and the many comments below and that is McCain cant go after Obama on experience because Palin has none or less that Obama.

Who is running for President, Commander in Chief of this country? Obama or Palin.

Who would you rather get "On the Job Training"? The President or Vice President?

How many times has Obama's Committee meet since he has been in the Senate? Zero

Has Obama ever ran a small, medium, or large City or State?

What experience does a senator possess that would help he or she be President?

What is the difference between a Senator and President? Senators write laws, Presidents make decisions. They have to be decisive, take all of the heat for their decisions. Look at Bush, every decision he has made he has been hit from every side. Obama has never had any real heat for any of his choices.

Palin has been Mayor and Governor. Which she has had to make executive decisions. Obama has no executive experience. Zero. How many days has he actually been a Senator and How many days of that has he been running for President?

At least Palin has experience running something, where Obama has none.

All of this goes back to my original point. Who do you want to get on the job training? The Pres or VP?
    • ^
    • v
    Jenny,
Not really sure you get it. Even if it was a stunt. His only thought was to get votes don't you think that his team thought through who that should be.

Or if he really wanted to loose and vote Obama why didn't he loose to Mit in the Primary. Or do you think he is just a Dem operative and he is trying to throw the election.

And for your comment about Palin's daughter. I am sure you never made a bad choice in your life? How many teenagers get pregnant each year no matter what is taught at home. Good parents and bad parents have teenagers that are pregnant.

I have learned after having children that what goes around comes around. So I would be very careful with what you say, or you may be a grandma or a great grandma sooner than you think.

Family Values seems to change when life shows up for the Republican and the Palin family.
Teenage pregnancy isn't okay, and we understand that it's really isn't our bussiness, but because we do know and can't unring that bell of information. There are things that can be discussed.
Hearing that the Palin's are so happy about their daughter keeping the baby (was that and issuse)inregard to how Gov Palin feel about abortion in any sistuation.
How they were so happy becoming grandparents to their unwed daughters baby doesn't seem an appropriate reaction to this sistuation.
I would have more respect for the Palin's if they would have kept this a private matter when asked. There doesn't seem to be any embarrestment about this, what message does this send to other young women who are trying to stay virgins. Obama has taken the high road on this issue as well he should, but being a father of two girls I'm sure he would not want this to happen to them. I hope someone interviews the Palin's so we can really know how they feel about this terrible thing that has happened, and for the future because they have other daughters to make sure this is not repeated. If I have ruffled any feather that was my intention.
    • ^
    • v
I've been doing a lot of thinking about this one. I have always liked McCain, even though I don't agree with most of his politics. So I'm thinking...... this VP stunt (which it is), MUST me McCain's attempt to vote for Obama. I mean, really..... he must be thinking, "wow, this Obama guy has my vote.... but oh no!! I'm running for president! How can I be sure to lose? I know....." And the story goes on...

And Palin's 17 year old unmarried daughter is PREGNANT?!?!? Geesh. What happened to "Family Values" and "Abstinence Training?" I guess we know how effective those tactics are.

Like the Dixie Chicks I am also a true Texan that is sorry that I have to say W was reared (reared as an ass) in Texas. For the last eight years we have had a President that can from the 2nd largest state now Mc Cain wants to give us another inexperienced Governor from the largest state in the United States. But she is very well qualified , her state has 670,053 citizens and the Federal Spending budget in Alaska was 8,445,389 in 2004.I think she is qualified, she can handle almost 10 million dollars, she should be able to help the US get out of debt.I wonder how many Cities in the US are bigger than 600.000 and have a 8 million budget. Sarah why dont you call Mary Kaye Cosmetics you can get a Cadillac with the experience that you have.

Well what I would like know is why the Republicans and John McCain didn't do a proper investagation of Sarah Palin there are things coming out now that takes to much attention off their campaign for the White House. You leftists that expect some kind of point/counterpoint debate, based on your contrived assertions against Republicans, might as well save your fetid breath. If you think I, or people like me will waste our time over such masturbatory exercises, then you are even more stupid than the average liberal.

For every ridiculous accusation you make against McCain/Palin, I can toss back the same in spades against Obama/Biden. (Yeah, JE/WNTW, I said “spades”, so hit me with the bigot retort you predictable child) I’m not wasting my time, so I will simply editorialize my point of view, and call you people the children you are.

This place is a cesspool of shallow thought, delivered by Dem party hacks and the useful idiots whom they inspire. It’s a joke, so the very idea that any real discussion would transpire between opposing views is as unlikely as Michael Moore passing on the donuts and pizza, and instead doing a few miles on a treadmill.

Well, there's pandering...then there's pandering. Does McOld really think the average American voter is too stupid to see through this?

Did ANYONE vet this woman? The rumors that are flying after only 48 hours are enough to make a priest blush.

This is the BIG LEAGUES, where everyone in the mud pit gets splashed..with some left over for the families as well. If she isn't used to having them ALL in the spot light...she's in the wrong place at the wrong time!

I recall Hillary Clinton's first trip to the mud bath when Bubba was elected. It wasn't pretty and she was pissed as hell. But she learned...and kept her head down. Sarah Palin is about to get her head handed to her.

The Vice Prez debate is going to be an absolute joke. I can't imagine what kind of discourse she could possibly hold on ANY foreign topic. I suspect she might even struggle with some of them concerning Canada.

Typical McCain campaign strategy...make your announcement at the tail end of a Friday of a 3 day holiday weekend. Did he REALLY think the press would take the weekend off? Or was that just wishful thinking?
    • ^
    • v
Very observant, because of his choice I have not been the only person concerned about the possibility of Alzheimer's and his general overall health. I don't know who actually made this decision, as I don't think McCain is making any real decisions.

Although Palin has less experience than Obama may have, there are people defending her as just being a "good ol' girl". Unfortunately, I think Republicans will do almost anything to win.

This could be very, very dangerous for any American who is not part of a huge corporation. After all we live in a country that gave our present leader of the free world another term to really mess things up.

Hope America wakes up before its all too late.
    • ^
    • v
A fair fight would have started with words not judgement. McCain said Obama lacks experience. Obviously so does Palin. I guess McCain is going to have to shred those thousands of signs that read "Not ready to lead" for the RNC this week. It is obvious he will not be using them.
With that being said might I say I like Sarah Palin. She has done wonders for Alaska, a state with 650,000 people who live off of oil companies tax payments. If I had a choice of running a state, besides the climate, I would definately choose alaska.
She is pro gun (which is good)
She is pro life (which is bad)-considereing that within the next four years 3 supreme court justices are going to be replaced. Say goodbye to the right to choose ladies.
She is pro drilling which does not solve anything besides making oil executives happy.
    She is pro McCain-enough said.

Otis you talk a confident game, but when it comes to reality I want you to remember 85 thousand people showed up to see Obama speak. Thousands waited outside the stadium and were willing to pay upwards of 1000 dollars a ticket.
John McCain is scheduled to speak this week. He is speaking in front of 10 thousand people. He is giving away the tickets for free and still has not packed the house! Still feel confident? It is time for a change!!!!!!!!

How predictable and revealing that Bush supporters like Toole like so many reactionaries this year, are so completely devoid of any substantive ideas that they can only spew glittering generalities and try to make their Bush-Cheney motivated case using sophmoric petulant child-speak.

Notice how he ignores the "facts" such as the new polls that decry McCain's pick of Palin as an unmitigated disaster.

". . . the lowest vote of confidence in a running mate since the elder George Bush chose then Indiana senator Dan Quayle to join his ticket in 1988. In comparison, Delaware Sen. Joe Biden was seen as qualified by 57%-18% after Democrat Barack Obama chose him as a running mate last week".

Or the new poll today which shows Barack Obama with the support of women by 55% to 37%.

I have never seen "less fear" in Democrats eyes this election year. I see a resolute determination and unity now that I have not seen before. Kool-aid drinking Bush sycophants like McToole are once again embracing sexism and racism as ammunition to try and hold on to what miniscule slice of power they have left. Thankfully though, for America and the world, they are doomed to failure and McBush's pick of Palin -- a patronizing insult to women everywhere will be another nail in their coffin.
    • ^
    • v
I can smell the fear on you, John (and the rest of you for that matter)- like stink on a monkey.

Your party is diminished since Barrack the child candidate took the nod for your side. Weakness always breeds bravado, and your hilariously obvious attempts to buttress your weak ticket with claims of political annihilation on McCain/Palin from your side make me feel warm and fuzzy.

Welcome the first female VEEP in January, and rejoice with us in this moment of glory.

The morning after election day, the press will be scratching their heads that their chosen candidate was in fact not chosen, and you and your lemmings can go summon the latest conjuration of Florida 2000, or Ohio 2004. I can already see it, and your talking heads on MSNBC will be leading the charge.

It is so typical of spoiled children to cry foul when they lose in a fair fight.

"The vice president has two duties. One is to inquire daily as to the health of the president, and the other is to attend the funerals of Third World dictators. And neither of those do I find an enjoyable exercise.''

This is directed at the uneducated and ignorant child Otis Toole's comment below. Yes, Rebecca's a threat and so are you. Anyone who supports the reactionary, right-wing ticket of Bush-McCain is a threat. So excuse me while I put you in your place.

Despite his rhetoric, McCain is nothing but a pandering old-school politician who is desperate to win no matter what the cost to the American people. His selection of Sarah Palin, an extreme right-wing reactionary and unqualified one term Governor proves this. His true motivation is to continue the neo-con policies of the Bush-Cheney administration, building an even bigger conflict-based economy that enables the corporate war profiteers while promoting a society that benefits the wealthy and ignores the needs of the middle class and the poor.

And the first polls since Palin's selection are disastrous for you Toole. Read it and weep:

    From USA Today:

There is wide uncertainty about whether she's qualified to be president. In the poll, taken Friday, 39% say she is ready to serve as president if needed, 33% say she isn't and 29% have no opinion.

That's the lowest vote of confidence in a running mate since the elder George Bush chose then Indiana senator Dan Quayle to join his ticket in 1988. In comparison, Delaware Sen. Joe Biden was seen as qualified by 57%-18% after Democrat Barack Obama chose him as a running mate last week.

    From Rasmussen:

Some 38% of men said they were more likely to vote for McCain now, but only 32% of women. By a narrow 41% to 35% margin, men said she was not ready to be president -- but women soundly rejected her, 48% to 25%.

By a 29/44 margin, men and women together, they do not believe that she is ready to be President.

I have no problem with who Rebecca votes for. It is just a little frustrating watching the American's continue their assault on reason. They're against science, they're against intelligence and it is used every four years. My favorite moment of the 2004 is Bush in the Dakotas or one of those states. He let his voice get a little less formal, as he does everytime he thinks he's talking to the rubes, and started talking about those people in Washington will hear us. Nobody ever stopped to ask by the way where is it you live. McCain is not like you, he owns seven house, has multi-millions and has been a public servant for over twenty years he is Washington. So when you pull the lever just know you are voting for the status quo.

Rebecca, PUMAs and others like them were Republicans that wanted to vote for Hillary because she was a woman. Nuff said.

i'm all for rebecca voting for who she wishes! maybe she benefits from mccain as president, maybe she's one of those people making over 250k. remember, the 'privileged' don't want to pay into our system, they want as many cut-backs as possible. greed. but i'm not saying rebecca is greedy, just that she may benefit from mccain in one way or another.

i'll keep talking about how stupid mccain is at every chance. he's an elitest and doesn't "get it" when it comes to regular hard working blue color americans. mccain says he does, but what charity or organizations did mccain lend his time and efforts like obama has done??? for the people???

i'm sick of hearing about mccain as some 'maverick'. a maverick is a dissenter, an independent-minded person who refuses to abide by the dictates of or resists adherence to a group. (???) in mccain's case, this could be disasterous for every american! we cannot afford another 4 years of the past eight. no way, no how, no mccain or palin! ;-|

Why the gang-bang on Rebecca? This woman does not have the right to vote as she chooses? Is she some kind of threat to you?

Or is it simply, that you have that little nagging pain, that acorn of a thought in the back of your feeble mind, that there are legions more just like her? Rhetorical question, kids.

Keep telling yourselves how dumb McCain is, and how unqualified Palin is, as I am certain it will allow you to enjoy the slumber of the insecure and delusional.

This was a brilliant move by Mac and you know it. The fear in your tepid little rants is palpable.

January 2009 will usher in the era of McCain/Palin.

Obama can go back to chumming it up with lunatic angry preachers, home-grown terrorists, and crooked developers. Buh bye.

    @ Rebecca,

How did Obama cut down small town America? Obama told the truth that small town America votes against its own economic interest for wedge issues like guns, abortion, and Jesus all the while the Republicans have been laughing at you. Lots of people from small towns are low information voters. Hell, lots of people from big city U.S.A. are low information voters too. If you truly supported Clinton, you would support Obama. If you only supported Clinton because she was a woman, you might be a low information voter.

not only will she have to undergo intensive training if mccain is elected, she will have to undergo intensive training for the campaign since she has not a clue what a vp does....

    should be a campaign ad...

Cool! A 75 year-old... I'm mean 72 year old "war hero" who graduated 895th of 899 at the Naval Academy, crashed 5 planes, and got shot down, paired with a "hockey-mom" with 2 years "executive" experience in the Arctic. Sheer genius. Anyone dumb enough to have re-elected Bush will not hesitate to back this pair.

Lets see: Palin comes from the ranks of ordinary Americans (Ordinary Americans governing ordinary Americans. How refreshing!). Seems to me the Constitution does not specify the position is to be filled with none but Ivy League grads. So, the Party Of And For The Working Class (that would be you) want to lock out women from the positions of Pres and VP? You Leftinistas are poster-children for why we should not smoke crack. As for the half-heartbeat from the Oval Office, how many times since the founding of this great nation has a sitting president passed away and left the leadership in the hands of his VP? Assasinations do not count. Did the country collapse into chaos afterward? Hmm? C'mon, its the "Google" tab.

i was just waiting for mccain to do something stupid. i'm glad people have paid attention to this man. now, he wants to hand over our country to mrs. palin? mcain is insane in the membrane on the slow train...going in the wrong direction!

I can't believe John Mc Cain picked Palin! He's met her twice and he believes she's qualified to be a heart beat away from the Presidency! She said she was a PTA member, a soccer mom, a mom of five, a Mayor and a recently elected Governor. Can you imagine Joe Biden saying, I was a member of the PTA, a soccer coach, a father of three and thirty six years in the Senate. Oh yes, and I haven't really paid any attention to Irag.

I'm glad you are Rebecca and truthfully I'm sorry they can't find someone who knows even less than nothing, who wants everybody to be armed to the teeth, and let's the whole country falls into anarchy then by God they'll be respecting small town America. Oh too late Bush is always there watching a major American city drown - Heck of Job Brownie - he obviously knew nothing about helping people but I hear he really respected small town America. You should also take a look at how much your taxes under the Bush eight years only this time they might be put into small towns rather than sending your parents money to build schools, police stations, and fire stations in Iraq. He actually was elected to be president of this country you know.
    • ^
    • v
Rebecca. The truth is important don't you think?

That is not true that Obama doe not support the second ammendment. If you heard his speech last night he said one can support the second ammendment while keeping assault weapons out of children's hands.

Do your parents make more than $250,000 per year? If not, Barack Obama's public pledge is that he will not raise their taxes but cut them.

If you are truly from small town America; can't you see that it Bush and McCain that support the wealthy and corporations at your parent's expense?

Let's see how intellectually honest you can be Rebecca; or is this just about you being right.
    • ^
    • v
Sorry, everyone...I stated why I wasn't voting for Obama. Not simply because McCain has a woman VP. Obama alienated many of us in small town America. He also doesn't support the second amendment. My parents pay high taxes already and have enough government regulation to contend with. Quite frankly, Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air and I'm excited about voting for her and McCain.

I vote to nominate Michael Palin. He has more foreign policy experience. Have you seen his travel series They're darn funny.

What the hell was he thinking.

I will for the first time in my adult life, I am 55 years old, will vote Democratic.

I find it insulting that you believe just because you pick a woman VP, who is far from qualified, to be VP let alone run this country is something should happen, that you have somehow captured the women vote. YOU ARE SO OFF BASE.

    WHERE IS MITT?

YOU DESERVE TO LOSE AND OBAMA GETS MY VOTE.

check out the pundits latest tricks:

since mccain has made such a stupid move as to choose a vp he barely knows...who also doesn't have the traits mccain has claimed obama doesn't have...

now the pundits are defending mccain's decision by reporting that "it's really who's in the #1 slot that is important" implying not many voters are so much concerned with biden and palin? are you freakin' kidding me??? it certainly DOES matter especially since mccain just turned 72...he's old. the vp moves into the #1 slot and i would be FRY-tooned (frightened) to have palin as our president! forget the rouge nations giving us ANY respect. this would be disasterous!

John McCain, thanks for posting the site www.evilmccain.com. I went there and found some interesting points about Palin, yet many of the other points made I had already thought of too.

Like, McCain and his superior judgement. *shaking my head* He picks Palin as if she has the "experience" to become our president when his old azz croaks. No way, no how, NO McCain!

What about the scandal Palin is involved in surrounding her brother, getting him fired as a state trooper? She brings this to the table, and more! This is a judgment call McCain made?!

McCain is not good for America!

I have to say I did enjoy watching Lindsey Graham tripping over his tongue trying to explain why she's experienced and O'Bama isn't. What a hoot.

This is the best thing possible for Obama. I have been laughing all day listening to rattled republicans trying to defend their obviously brain dead candidate and his zany choice for his running mate. Take a good look at the decision making skill of McCain. You will need a microscope.

Come on Rebecca don't try to sting anyone. Think Hillary would approve? Sarah Palin "pales in" comparison to any other reasonable choice. Most women find the choice insulting.

    1. She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage.

    2. Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.

    3. She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.

    4. Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.

    5. She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.

    6. She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy and she pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years.

    7. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species as she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.

So, Rebecca - instead of women of experience like Christie Todd Whitman or Olympia Snowe, Kay Bailey Hutchinson - McCain chose Palin. And because you were a Clinton supporter you're going to vote for him, because she's a woman. Never mind the fact that Clinton is more a contemporary of Snowe, Hutchinson and Whitman and that Palin isn't fit to tie Clinton's shoes, never mind that McCain is pandering to get your PUMA vote - you're going to fall into that trap, say to hell with experience and vote for McCain because having any woman on the ticket will do?!

My city has 55,000 people. Three years ago she was running a city that has 7,000. I guess that makes my Mayor almost eight times more qualified. I guess this shows just how dangerous the War on Error is to John McCain. I hope him and Sarah follow him to the gates of hell. What a joke.

    REBECCA
So you must be excited about the idea of women losing the choice to have abortions for the foreseeable future and not getting equal wages as men for equal work. Does that "do it for you"?
    • ^
    • v
Sarah Palin, (who?) . . . whose husband works for BP (formerly British Petroleum), has repeatedly put special interests first when it comes to the environment. In her scant two years as governor, she has lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, pushed for more drilling off of Alaska’s coasts, and put special interests above science. Palin has made it clear through her actions that she is unwilling to do even as much as the Bush administration to address the impacts of global warming. Her most recent effort has been to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list, putting Big Oil before sound science.

As unbelievable as this may sound, this actually puts her to the right of the Bush administration.

I was a strong Hillary supporter but will definitely be voting for McCain/Palin. Obama just doesn't do it for me, especially after he cut down small-town America. Sorry my friends.

In my mind, this pick comes down to balancing two major things. McCain steals Obama's post-convention hype vs. removing his ability to talk up Obama's inexperience. There are other factors, as I point out here:

10 Reasons Why Palin Will Win And Lose The Election For McCain

but that is the major gamble that the McCain campaign took with this selection. I, like you, don't think that a bunch of Hillary voters are going to mindlessly flock to the GOP ticket for a pro-life woman.
